Staircase and Panelling Restoration
This grand interior staircase and panelling was looking very tired: there were scratches, discoloration from sunlight and bad repairs etc. Some parts were in excellent condition so, rather than completely refinishing the entire interior, colour was judiciously added and the finish repaired with shellac section by section before waxing everything by hand. This preserved all the good things about the finish – patina, sense of history, original finishes – but eliminated all the negative aspects. This was carried out at a faction of the cost of fully refinishing all the timberwork - as well as the attendant noise dust and disruption that that would entail - and achieved a far superior result.
