Lippincott designed these now iconic chairs and other furniture items as a part of his major redevelopment of Auckland university, including the Clock Tower, in the 1920’s. 

 

While not especially comfortable in my opinion they are a lovely design and extremely well made and ambitious considering that they were made for a public building.
